Speculation drives prices through the roof; US Congress drags feet for eight years

A shameless plug for myself...

Ever since we passed the psychological barrier of $100 a barrel, it's been pretty much a runaway train. The Peak Oil theory doesn't really explain how gas prices can jump ten cents a gallon in one day. The thing about Peak Oil is that it's a long term geological problem, so there must be another gremlin in the works here messing with the day-to-day prices, you know? I think it has something to do with these happy, happy guys. I mean, they are having a damn good laugh.

Syria must cut ties with Iran: Israel

You can see how serious these talks are. Israel is really giving them a chance to get going. Actually, having talks with people you don't get along with is a great way to start an argument. - Ed.

Israel said on Thursday that Syria must distance itself from Iran and cut ties with groups like Hezbollah and Hamas if wants to conclude a peace with the Jewish state.

A day after both countries announced the start of indirect talks, Israeli foreign minister Tzipi Livni said in English: "Israel wants to live in peace with its neighbours, but Syria also needs to understand that it needs also full renunciation of supporting terror — Hezbollah, Hamas and of course Iran."

For his treatment of children in the WOT, Bush is a war criminal

Surely nothing that President Bush has done in his two wretched terms of office — not the invasion and destruction of Iraq, not the overturning of the five-centuries-old tradition of habeas corpus, not his authorization and encouragement of torture, not his campaign of domestic spying — nothing, can compare in its ugliness as his approval, as commander in chief, of the imprisoning of over 2500 children.

Depleted Uranium shells used by US military worse than nuclear weapons

(NaturalNews) The use of depleted uranium (DU) munitions by the U.S. military may lead to a death toll far higher than that from the nuclear bombs dropped at the end of World War II.

DU is a waste product of uranium enrichment, containing approximately one-third the radioactive isotopes of naturally occurring uranium. Because of its high density, it is used in armor- or tank-piercing ammunition. It has been fired by the U.S. and British militaries in the two Iraq wars and in Afghanistan, as well as by NATO forces in Kosovo and the Israeli military in Lebanon and Palestine.

Inverted Totalitarianism: A New Way of Understanding How the US is Controlled

Excerpt:

The genius of our inverted totalitarian system "lies in wielding total power without appearing to, without establishing concentration camps, or enforcing ideological uniformity, or forcibly suppressing dissident elements so long as they remain ineffectual. A demotion in the status and stature of the 'sovereign people' to patient subjects is symptomatic of systemic change, from democracy as a method of 'popularizing' power to democracy as a brand name for a product marketable at home and marketable abroad. The new system, inverted totalitarianism, is one that professes the opposite of what, in fact, it is. The United States has become the showcase of how democracy can be managed without appearing to be suppressed."

Jim Lobe: Bush's Nazi-Iran Analogy

Great analysis by Jim Lobe. He still seems confused, though, about why they would do something so stupid. In my humble opinion, the missing link here is that Bush, Cheney and others involved in this decision-making are psychopaths. Therefore, it's not helpful to put their decisions into some sort of logical framework. The reason they do things is to get narcissistic gratification. They couldn't care less about logic or negative consequences, especially when other people will have to pay the consequences. Of course, they have plans to avoid their own share of the payback. Connecting the Dots: Netanyahu, Israel's Mussolini

And like clockwork, they slot themselves into all the significant seats of power.

One such individual interests us today. It seems that dangerous moves are afoot which threaten the safety of the entire planet, and that he plays a key role.

At present, it is very clear that the global psychopathic manoeuvres gravitate significantly around the state of Israel, which takes its place at the centre of an horrific downward-spiral of violence, blood, despair and devastation almost beyond human imagining, which spews forth across the surrounding areas, and threatens to envelope the entire earth in its darkness.

While it is difficult to be specific about who exactly may be behind such a conspiracy, if it exists, it is at least clear that the privately-managed system of global financial capitalism gives ample opportunity for the world’s richest people to combine for their mutual benefit. Further, global financial capitalism itself is based on the monopolization of money-creation by a world banking system that is largely privately owned, even while working through the central banks of the largest and most prosperous nations. This article postulates the existence of a coordinated and longstanding matrix set up by the controllers of money to dominate the movements of history.
