Israel vows no let up over Gaza
Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak says Palestinian militant group Hamas has suffered a "hard blow", but insists the offensive in Gaza will continue.

One such flyer, an image of which was sent to The Electronic Intifada, seeks to recruit Palestinian collaborators. Signed by the "Israel Defense Forces command," and addressed to the "the residents of the Gaza Strip," the flyer states: "You hold the responsibility for your own fate!" It invites Palestinians to call or email the Israeli army "to inform us about the location of rocket launching sites and the terrorist gangs that made you hostages of their actions." Because collaboration with an occupier is universally viewed as one of the worst forms of betrayal, the flyer warns "For your own safety, please maintain secrecy when you call us."

The camera never lies. Maybe.
Philip Weiss comments today on the IDF's use of You Tube to sell its attack on the Gaza Strip, referring specifically to an incident described by the BBC's Paul Reynolds, in which a blurry piece of footage that the IDF describes as the destruction of Grad missiles being loaded onto a truck turns out perhaps to be instead the destruction of a Gaza family trying to salvage oxygen cylinders from its destroyed workshop.
Reynolds points out that this incident really sums up the problem with accepting IDF war footage as factual: on their own, these grainy images don't unequivocally show you anything. The only indication you have that you are witnessing belligerent activity is that the IDF says so. And "the IDF says so", is not necessarily a reliable indicator of fact.

The 47-year-old Palestinian has spent nearly half his life supplying Israel with intelligence information about his Arab brethren.

TBILISI, January 5 (RIA Novosti) - Georgia will sign a strategic partnership treaty with the United States on January 9, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

FBI Email says Bush authorized abuse of Iraqi detainees
An e-mail written by a senior FBI agent in Iraq in 2004 specifically stated that President George W. Bush had signed an Executive Order approving the use of military dogs, sleep deprivation and other tactics to intimidate Iraqi detainees.
The FBI e-mail--dated May 22, 2004--followed disclosures about abuse of Iraqi detainees at Abu Ghraib prison and sought guidance on whether FBI agents in Iraq were obligated to report the U.S. military’s harsh interrogation of inmates when that treatment violated FBI standards but fit within the guidelines of a presidential Executive Order.
Constitutionality of FISA (as amended by the Patriot Act) to be reviewed
A federal appeals court in Oregon will hold a hearing next month on a government appeal of a 2007 judicial ruling that said the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) is unconstitutional.
The FISA is a statute that regulates domestic intelligence, and generally requires judicial authorization for intelligence search and surveillance within the United States. Yesterday Aljazeera Arabic TV showed the leaflet which Gazans awoke to find scattered everywhere by the terrorist Israeli air force.
After a long search for a copy of the leaflet, I finally found it on Ma'an News (a Palestinian news agency). The leaflet gave me an idea for action that might help our people in Gaza a little. Let's read this leaflet first then follow the action.
