Some banks should stay under the TARP (FT)

Banks are racing to repay government funds handed to them under the Treasury Department's Troubled Asset Relief Program, but shareholders may want them to hold onto that money for a while.

The rationale for repaying the TARP money quickly is obvious: Banks want to get regulators and legislators off their backs and get out from under the pay restrictions TARP participation mandates.
