Tax on Bonuses Eyed

Isn't it amazing how they can pull together when they want to? It's almost like our congresspeople enjoy making a big show of how outrageous this all is, and how hard they work to protect you, despite the fact that they passed legislation and looked the other way for years to make it all possible in the first place. It's almost like they want you to be really, really angry now, don't you think? - Ed.

Congressional anger over AIG leads to threat of levy WASHINGTON - Sprinting to get ahead of the public backlash against bonuses paid to American Insurance Group employees, members of Congress vowed yesterday to pass legislation taxing nearly all of the money unless the employees return it.

At least three bills have been introduced in the House this week seeking to place an excise tax of 95 percent to 100 percent on the $165 million in bonuses paid to about 400 employees of AIG's Financial Products division.
