Putin website shows disputed islets as Japanese territory

MOSCOW--A map on Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's official Web site depicts the Russian-held islets north of Hokkaido as Japanese territory, it was learned Friday.

Clicking on the map highlights the disputed islets in magenta, signifying they are part of Japan.

The four islets, which are effectively under Russian control, are known as the northern territories in Japan and the Southern Kurils in Russia.
