Reported Ukraine Fatalities Increase To 155
969,247 Influenza/ARI
48,972 Hospitalized
155 Dead
The above numbers represent the latest figures from Ukraine. The increases over the weekend have slowed, but it is unclear if this reduction in the rate of increases is due to an improving situation, or just fewer reports received because of the weekend. Although Lviv still has a wide lead in all categories (see map), including 155,895 cases, the city of Kiev is now up to 60,366 and when combined with the 47,802 cases in the Kiev Oblast, the Kiev city/oblast has increased to more than 100,000 cases, which is higher than any oblast, other than Lviv. The low number of deaths there, 5, may just be a trailing number, since the largest increases in Kiev were in the past few days.

2. Yushchenko asking UN to hold virus expert examination of Ukraine
Scope of flu epidemic, including California virus, is immense in Ukraine, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko told reporters. "We have specific risk factors, aggravating the epidemic exactly in Ukraine, which is seen from findings of both the National Security and Defense Council and international experts," the head of state said.
Yushchenko emphasized that Ukraine was hit by three at once hard virus infectious agents - two seasonal and Californian flues. Virologists say, as a result of mutations, this combination of infections may produce an even more aggressive new virus.
"That is why I addressed the United Nations with the request to conduct a virology expert examination of Ukraine, and set up an appropriate laboratory to take efficient anti-epidemic measures," the President emphasized.
source3. WHO studies flu impact in Zhytomyr
A World Health Organization team of experts has continued its work in Ukraine over the weekend. While four members continued investigations in Lviv – one of the most affected regions in the country – two others travelled 100 km west of the capital, Kyiv, to Zhytomyr: a medium-sized city and a regional (oblast) capital. The health authorities there have invested resources in preparing for the pandemic in line with the central Government’s guidelines. The two team members went to the area, along with WHO’s representative in Ukraine, to see how a typical region prioritizes action to prevent an outbreak of pandemic (H1N1) 2009 influenza.
A total of 1.3 million people live in the wider Zhytomyr oblast, explained the head of the oblast health administration to the WHO team. As of 7 November 2009, nearly 20 000 people had reported acute respiratory illness (ARI) in the previous 8 days. The region confirmed an ARI epidemic 2 days ago, with the numbers breaching a defined threshold (set using the weekly ARI incidence for the past 10 years).

4. almost a million sick, Swine Flu cases registered at 7 -- so it's not the Swine flu? is it regular flu? what is it?
First deputy Kyiv mayor Irena Kilchytska said that on Nov. 6 the total number of people who have fallen ill with А/Н1N1 virus has reached seven already. One person, a woman, 35, has died.
The other six, according to the official website of Kyiv mayor's office, are getting treatment at state and private hospitals. There are 45, 085 ill with acute respiratory virus diseases and seasonal flu. Medical authorities, in particular, registered 9, 669 cases in the past 24 hours. Nearly 1, 000 have been hospitalized.

5. Ukraine health minister says new strain of H1N1, possible mutation -- WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE WHO TO TELL US.
The first deputy minister of Health in Ukraine said in a statement that they have a different H1N1 swine flu than the rest of the world. In 6 days
500,000 people have been infected and 109 deaths have been confirmed.
According to statements from departments and officials there is no concensus, however some infectious disease experts are stating that this is either a mutated, recombined H1N1 or a new flu strain.
The Ukrainian government imposed quarantines in nine western provinces in late October in an attempt to curb the spread of flu. All education establishments in Kiev were closed, and people were obliged to wear medical masks in all catering establishments, shops and social services facilities across the former Soviet republic.
Infectious disease expert Dr. Donald Lau had previous stated that the chances of the Ukrainian pandemic being the same H1N1 virus were statistically low since the high viral transmission rates were unusual for H1N1. He stated "there is almost certainly some type of new virus, or a lethal recombination that has occurred." Dr. Lau had also speculated that the number of deaths was much higher than what the Ukraine and World Health Organization were reporting.
Some have blamed a lack of public health for differences but according to sources this is not the case. The plague or virus in the Ukraine was quoted as having 10 times the mortality rate than the normal swine flu. In a paper published in microbiology news called resurecting influenza pandemic strains, the author recognized 5 strains of weaponized flu.
Confirmation that this could be a mutated version (or a viral pneumonia which is a new strain):
* 250,000 to 500,000 infected in one day, which is much faster than any other country has seen for H1N1
* Many cases of viral pneomonia where the lungs fill with blood, a much higher viral pneumonia rate than any other country
* Ukraine Health minister stated himself that "swine flu has mutated"
* Much higher death rate than with H1N1
Most cases are in the rural north west area of the Ukraine. That statistics are not unusual for a few months but this is for a few days. On the ground though, unconfirmed reports say that people are going on as normal, they also say that this is fear mongering. (speaking to locals)
WHO still needs to confirm gene sequences that are different. Everyone is waiting for the gene sequences which will confirm whether this viral pandemic has been hyped, recombined, mutated or simply due to a lack of health services in the Ukraine.

6. dozens of people die in India from unknown virus
Doctors at Sassoon General Hospital in Pune, India are worried. Thirty-five patients with swine flu-like symptoms died in the last 45 days at the hospital, and not one of them tested positive for swine flu. The doctors still don't know what caused the death of these patients.
Tell the world
"We requested the National Institute of Virology (NIV) to check tissue samples from these patients for 8 to 10 combinations of the HN virus subtype like H1N2 or H2N2. It is extremely important that the virus is identified so we can decide on the course of treatment," said Dr Arun Jamkar, dean of Sassoon Hospital, which has been dubbed as the epicentre of the swine flu activity in the state.
On October 28, doctors at Sassoon shared the data on these deaths with the Center for Disease Control, Atlanta, USA, and virologists across the world in a video conference.
